My School is Cool
During the months of June and July our students were engaged in our project: My School is Cool. Our objective is to link Portuguese, English and all levels share activities such as: musical presentations, nutrition projects, experiences and researches on different areas. This way our students interact and develop their knowledge.
With this project, the students will be able to enjoy speaking another language in a creative way.

Kinder I – Things that change. They will participate in experiences with the colors.
Kinder II – Think about it – Little Earth charter eight principles for a better world.
Kinder III – Yummy, yummy for my tummy – Healthy recipes: Caesar salad, pineapple juice with mint.
Elementary I – Painting with Monet – The students will study and research on the painter and exhibit their paintings.
Elementary II / IV – Talent Show – The students will participate in a talent show (music, dance, riddles, drawings…).
Learning about our alphabet
Kinder III is exploring the letters and the sounds of the alphabet in English. We´ve started with their names and the words present in their daily life here in Miraflores.
To improve their vocabulary besides working with our recipe book, in which we have recipes from A to Z, we work with the Smart Board and the I pad.
We also have worksheets and songs related to the unit we´ve been studying.
In the I pad, we use an app the students love and learn from: when they touch the screen, they listen to the word, which helps a lot develop their listening and speaking.
Our MiraArraiá
On the 28th of June, the students from Nursery made two presentations for their parents. One in Portuguese and the other in English.
After the dance, the students and their parents enjoyed a delicious snack.
In the afternoon all students, from Nursery to Elementary IV, had fun in our Mira Arraiá.
We had the traditional games: Hit the cans, The clown´s mouth, Fishing, The donkey´s tail and Hoop.
Our Mira Arraiá isn´t over yet. We are getting ready for Saturday – July 2nd – when our party is going to be held. We are going to have a lot of dance, a big square dance and games for the students from Kinder I to Elementary IV.
We´ll wait for you there. Don´t miss it!
We are going to have a lot of fun!
Let´s eat helthy food
We have been working with the students to make them understand what eating healthy means.
- What does it mean to eat healthy?
- What are the healthy foods we should eat everyday?
- Which vitamins can be found in each food?
Working with the food pyramid, we realized that some foods should be consumed in great quantities, whereas others, in small quantities.
The nutritionist Marcia Teves, talked to the students from Elementary I to Elementary IV about hte subject.
Each English group had to prepare a healthy menu. They elaborated a menu for the week (from May 23 to May 27) containing the three meals they have at school: morning snach, lunch and afternoon snack.
The English classes were responsible for the lunch menu of the week from May 23 to May 27)
What about you?
Do you eat healthy food?

The groups from Kinder I and II prepared a small book about Easter and they sang a lot of songs.
However, their favorite one was Hop, Hop, Hop Little Bunny.
On Wednesday 20th, the students went home looking like rabbits.
On Tuesday 26th, the teachers prepared a theater for the students.
The story was an adaptation from the book "Menina bonita do laço de fita" by the author Maria Clara Machado.

St. Patrick´s Day
St. Patrick´s Day
On March 17th, we celebrate St. Patrick´s day. It all started in Ireland and today all English-Speaking countries celebrate it too.
Here at Miraflores, we had many different activities to celebrate it.
All students were wearing green t-shirt – from Nursery to Kinder II. They made their own hats and participated in activities about the legend of St. Patrick.
Kinder II, prepared a small book with lots of beautiful drawings.
From Elementary I to Elementary IV, we researched on this special date: the flag, map and costumes of Ireland.
To wrap it up, in the last week of March, we are going to prepare a spinach toast.
Students from Kinder II to Elementary I will go to “Barra Carnes” and buy the spinach.
